Fort Davis National Historic Site
Fort Davis was built in 1854, to protect travellers going from San Antonio to El Paso, as well as settlers in the area. It was the last U.S. Cavalry fort and is both picturesque and fascinating for its rich history.
The fort today provides a fascinating window into life for soldiers in the U.S. Cavalry. It was pivotal in protecting West Texas settlers from the roving bands of Comanches that regularly raided the area.
This was the home of the Buffalo Soldiers and offers a variety of exhibits that illustrate military life on the frontier. In addition, there are knowledgable guides who will offer lots of stories and tall tales of adventure.
There are occasional live demonstrations that allow visitors to witness things in a more vivid and action-packed way. Check with the fort for event schedules.
